Premarital
Counseling

Congratulations! You are now engaged to the love of your life.

You are probably visualizing the “Perfect life” the two of you will share together and how you will prepare for your big wedding day.

Imagine your relationship…

…10 years from now… what does it look like? Have you shared this with your partner?

An honest and intimate connection is the foundation of every relationship… Premarital Counseling fosters and grows this type of connection!

Prepare now to avoid issues later.

The decision to get married is one of the most important steps you will ever take in your life. This commitment requires preparation and developing a deeper understanding of what marriage entails.

Premarital Counseling allows couples to discuss marriage stressors before they cause harm to the relationship. This provides stability, trust and cohesiveness in the relationship.

You will learn so much about each other – that may not have come up in discussions.

You will get to know one another better as you strengthen your communication skills. You will learn conflict and assertiveness listening skills – as you identify possible areas of conflict.

As you define role expectations, you will identify strengths and weaknesses in the relationship that may help avoid pitfalls in your future – or even cause the failure of the marriage.

Combining two lives takes ‘work’!

You each bring expectations of what it means to be a ‘good’ husband, wife, partner, housemate, and parent in a marriage.

In premarital counseling, conversation is created that lets you talk about these expectations. You’ve seen how easily derailed marriages can be from others around you. The more each of you recognizes the other’s expectations, the less likelihood that your own marriage will fall into one of the ‘marriage traps.’

You also want to create a plan that allows you each to realize your life’s dreams around family, finances, and career. By creating a plan now, areas of beliefs, values, parenting, and spiritual beliefs will be clearly defined for each partner.

What you should expect

  • We will meet between 8-10 one-hour sessions.
  • After our first session, you will complete an online assessment which will allow me to create a unique plan that will focus on topics that are specific to your relationship.
  • During sessions, I will ask you a lot of questions and teach you some new skills which I will guide you in using these skills with your fiancé.
  • Between sessions you will have homework – yes… mostly fun stuff where you ask each other specific questions and each of you answer as clearly as possible.

Will this be challenging? Sometimes. Will this be fun? No doubt! Will this help you prepare for a life- long marriage? Definitely, yes!
